About us

Service Times: 9:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

History:

Inwood Christian Reformed Church has been around for over 100 years. We began in 1911 as a small group of Dutch Christians who met above the local pool hall. One year later a church was officially organized and the first building project began for a church building and a horse barn. In 1914 we hired our first pastor, a missionary pastor provided by the Christian Reformed Church denomination. At this time services were held in Dutch.

A lot has changed since those early days!

What has not changed is our passion for serving God. Every Sunday we gather to thank God for his love for us and to study his word, the Bible. And every Sunday we are sent by God back to our daily routines of work, school and family life. We are sent with a purpose: to share the love of God by loving everyone we meet.

Vision:

Inwood Christian Reformed Church will impact the community of Inwood for Jesus by:

  • Boldly going out with the good news of Jesus
  • Warmly welcoming in our neighbors
  • Gratefully serving God in our community
  • Consistently growing deeper in faith

Beliefs:

As our name states, we are part of a denomination called the Christian Reformed Church in North America. To be Christian Reformed means three things.

First, we need to recognize our sin. Each of us has experienced the brokenness and messiness of life, much of that caused by ourselves. In theological terms we call that "sin." Admitting that we cannot fix our lives or our world by ourselves, and that we need to be rescued from sin, is the first step to becoming a Christian.

Second, we need Jesus. The Bible tells us that Jesus is the central part of God's rescue mission. Through Jesus, God took the terrible consequences of sin on himself. Through Jesus, God reconciled the world to himself. Through Jesus, God offers us freedom from sin. Through Jesus, God will someday make all things new and set all things right.

Finally, we dedicate our lives to saying "Thank you" to God. This means not only Sunday worship, but turning away from sinful and broken lifestyles to live according to biblical principles. We don't always do this perfectly, but then again, that's why we need Jesus.

 Leadership Team:

Our leaders strive to make decisions that will honor God and build up the church. We desire to devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the Word, to growing in knowledge and serving others. Our passion and goal is to equip believers for the works of ministry in every area of their lives.

 Council:

Our church council is made up of elders and deacons - members of the church who have gifts for leadership according to God's word. Elders assist the pastor in pastoral care and ensure that our preaching and worship is biblical. Deacons lead the church by collecting offerings, distributing them according to the needs of the community and leading us in service. Together the pastor, elders and deacons help the church achieve its mission of sharing the love of God.

Lead Pastor:
Inwood CRC is searching for our next pastor.  Our congregation values a pastor that is distinctively reformed, eager to preach God's Word, and excited to build on over 100 years of God's faithful ministry at Inwood CRC.  We ask those interested in shepherding our congregation to prayerfully consider ministering in Inwood, and to contact Gerald Brands at gerbrands@alliancecom.net for more information and our church profile.
